Only registered users are eligible to enter. In order to complete your registration, some users may be asked to fill out additional information prior to entering.
Winners will be notified by email, and must pick up their prize at 1729 Grand Blvd Kansas City, MO 64108. Picture ID is required. If a winner is unreachable or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be selected. If The Kansas City Star cannot find an eligible winner for the prize, that prize will not be awarded.
Winners will be chosen through a combination of popular user vote and panel of contest judges - weighted as follows: (A) popular user vote (45%) and (B) panel of contest judges (55%). Contest judges will judge photos on the basis of overall appeal of the photo. In case of a tie, the tied entries will be re-evaluated against each other by the judging panel based on the photo criteria.
By participating in the voting portion of any contest, each voting participant agrees to be bound by the official contest rules. Voting is limited to one vote per verified email address. If an entrant receives multiple and/or irregular votes or multiple votes from the same user or users, including but not limited to, votes generated by a robotic, programmed, script, macro, other automated means or other source, The Kansas City Star reserves the right to disqualify the entrant in its sole discretion. If the contest includes the use of an internet tool and the internet voting process fails to operate properly or appears to be tampered with or tainted with errors, fraud or unfair practices, The Star reserves the right to use another means to determine the winner(s), i.e. random selection or appointing a panel of judges. All decision of the judges are final.
The Kansas City Star reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or suspend this contest, in its entirety or in part should virus, bug, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or other causes beyond The Star's control corrupt the administration security, fairness, integrity or proper play of the contest.
You must be 18 years of age or older at time of entry to be eligible for this contest, and must show a valid driver's license or picture ID. This contest is void where prohibited by law. You must complete all contact information to be eligible to win. You may submit one entry only. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries.
Employees of Kansas City Star, its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible.
By entering, winner consents to allow the use of his/her name and/or photograph for advertising similar promotions without further compensation. Winner releases sponsors from all liability regarding use and enjoyment of the prize, tax liabilities and insurance. If any, are the sole responsibility of the winner. Prizes are not redeemable for cash.
Kansas City Star reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value.
Kansas City Star reserves the right to restrict the local winners to only persons whose primary residence is within a 60 mile radius of the affiliate's' office.
Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest.
Entrants further grant to Kansas City Star the right to use and publish their proper name and state online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Contest.
Kansas City Star reserves the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.

Each winner, by acceptance of the prize, agrees to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize.
UPICKEM and Kansas City Star are not responsible for Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God.
All results posted are unofficial until winners respond to e-mail notification.
Each winner is responsible for all federal, state and local taxes and will be required to complete an IRS form W-9. Sponsor reserves the right to withhold prizes until completed form W-9 is received.
This contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a contestant is using the contest for gambling purposes they will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
